It is of great importance to properly maintain your lock, especially if it is frequently exposed to the elements. Dirt and corrosion can accumulate, particularly during cold and harsh weather. Therefore, we recommend lubricating your door lock at least twice a year or ideally at every change of season. 

To ensure that your lock operates smoothly again, we recommend the use of lubricants such as WD-40 SPECIALIST® WHITE LITHIUM SPRAY GREASE. The correct use of these oils is essential.

Generally, there are two solutions for lock maintenance: prevention/protection and problem-solving. 

If a lock is difficult to open, it can be due to two reasons: 

​ ​ ​1. The key and the lock have not yet properly adjusted to each other, which often occurs with a new lock

​ ​ ​2. There is a build-up of dirt or rust formation in the lock


In these cases, we recommend using WD-40 SPECIALIST® WHITE LITHIUM SPRAY GREASE to solve the problem. This prevents rust formation in the lock. However, it is important that you apply the oil in the right place in the lock so that the WD-40 reaches the moving parts to ensure good lubrication.
